Griffindor and TEACHING???

Soooo... The past few days have been pretty uneventful at the Horne home... Mom's done a lot of cleaning random stuff that she's never cleaned before (yeah.....), Dad's been playing a lot of golf, Syd's been at Pioneer Trek, Haley's been working a lot, and I.... Well I've started HARRY POTTER!  Most of you won't be too excited about this but my sister-in-law sure will... She's been begging me to read them for over 3 years now!  Well I've finally started and am more than halfway finished with the first one.  And dare I say it??  I actually like it.  Ahem ahem... Yeah yeah yeah, you were right Sarah!  It's such an easy read and still entertaining!  It's nice that I really don't remember much except that Ron, Hermoine, and Harry all survive all 7 books.... So I guess they can't be TOO captivating if I know that... But I still love it so far!  It's nice to go back to the beginning and have all these questions answered (such as "Why does Voldemort kill Harry's parents in the first place?"... I know the answer now!)  Anyways... That's pretty much all I've been up to (whilst my family has interesting, busy lives...)

Oh I also spend a lot of time on Skype with the boy and on google and different teacher blogs trying to plan for the next school year... I'm starting to freak out a little that I'll be an actual teacher, with actual kids, actually in charge of whether or not they learn anything their first year of real school.... Kinda scary.  I've found LOTS of resources online for first grade teachers though and I'm pretty sure I won't have to plan one lesson plan the whole year... There is SO much out there!  It's amazing!  I gotta say I love BLOGS!  I have found so many blogs done by other first grade teachers that give so many cute, creative ways to teach different things.  It makes me excited but also overwhelmed... There's almost TOO much stuff! (Is that possible...?)  Well, I'll figure it out I guess huh?

Officially employed!

I am officially employed!  I will be the one and only first grade teacher at Alianza Academy on the Magna campus!!  I can't really believe it!  Here's the story.....

Ever since April I've been applying for pretty much every K-3 position available in Nebo, Provo, Alpine, Granite, Canyons, and Jordan districts.  I got one interview and that one didn't work out which was fine because I didn't want to work at a year-round school anyway.  So I wasn't having much luck for some reason.  Finally I decided to start applying at charter schools.  One day I was applying on teachers-teachers.com and I came across a charter school in Salt Lake called Alianza Academy.  I noticed that the director's name is Robert Ralphs.  I had a teacher in high school named Robert Ralphs and I wondered if it could be him.  I searched the website for any information about the faculty I could find and discovered it IS him!  I applied and the same day I got a call from a Marian Florence saying that she was my AP art teacher's wife and now she works  as Mr. Ralph's secretary!!  I was kind of in shock!  She said Robert wanted to meet with me the next day so of course I said YES!

So the next day I drive down to Salt Lake City and meet with my old high school teacher.  He immediately tells me I look exactly the same as I did when I was a junior in high school and says how happy he is to see me again.  We have an amazing interview that lasted for about an hour but it didn't seem that long because we were just talking.  He asked a couple questions but he didn't write anything down.  He was just listening to me and probing for answers in roundabout ways.  I felt really good leaving the interview that day.  I immediately called Ian and after telling him everything, he guaranteed me I had the job.  I didn't want to assume that yet an get my hopes up.  Robert said he would let me know in about a week.

I got an e-mail from Marian telling me that Robert wants to meet with me the next day. She said this probably means it's good news but I didn't know HOW good.  So I go in the next day and he fiddles with some papers and things for about 5 minutes so I was pretty nervous.  Finally he looks up and says "I'm here to offer you a job."  I was so relieved!  Then he says "It's a first grade position in Magna."  I'm even more relieved at this point because I wanted first grade!  We talk a little more about the details and I tell him I'd like a couple days to think about it.

Well after calling him with some more questions, I decided to accept the job!  It's going to be really hard I know.  Alianza Academy is a brand new charter school this year so I would be in on the ground level.  Which means less structure and more work.  But I think I can do it.  I know I can if I work really hard.  I'm going to need to get a lot of advise from other first grade teachers I know.

Well that's about it!  I signed a contract and now I'm going to start teaching on August 29, 2011!  A REAL TEACHER!  It's hard to believe....  I'm actually quite terrified.  But I've been trained and I'll do my best and work really hard.  And hopefully I'll change some kids' lives for the better :)

Modeling...

The other day Ian decided he wanted to take some pictures of us dancing (because we randomly dance together all the time... can he be more perfect??).  Anyways... It turned into a whole photo shoot of us.  All these pictures were taken on the top of a boat using the 10 sec wait feature.  So they're not very professional.  Though thanks to Sarah, some of them look great now!  So profesh Sarwah!  Thanks! We love them!

This is where it all started... In the Zupa's parking lot :)

We then moved to the Spyglas parking lot.... More privacy

This one was a test one because we didn't know how far away we could stand.  Clearly we failed.  But it actually turned out to be one of my favorite pictures!

Black and white...

Antiqued.... My favorite!

Cute :)

Black and white cute :)

Antiqued cute :)

Ian wanted nothing more than to lift me like dancers do all the time... Yeah they make it look easy... It's NOT easy.  It's terrifying.  I couldn't get myself to put my hands in the air.  It's going to take a lot of practice I guess....

I love being dipped :D

Ian thinks he's so cool... He told me to pose like this.  I look weird.

Promised pictures...

Here are some pictures from the bachelorette party....

The decorations I made.... Syd helped me put them up and then we added streamers :)

Ainge... Excited for presents and games!

Chubby Bunny Game!  She probably had about 5 large marshmallows in her mouth at this point....

About to spit them out... Yum.

The gang.

The bride excited for ice cream cake!

Crazy day!

So today was Ainge's (for those of you who may not know who Ainge is... It's Haley) bachelorette party AND her first bridal shower!  It was kind of crazy.... We had dinner at 6:30... Ran to the bridal shower... Stayed until 9:15... Then came back to have her bachelorette party!  Syd and I decorated the basement with balloons and streamers and all sorts of fun decorations!  Including this fun thing!  Check it out.  It's a really fun and CUTE idea for decorating.  I plan on using these to decorate my future babies' rooms!

We played a game where I asked Ainge questions about Nate (ones I had previously asked Nate and gotten all the answers to...) and for every one she got wrong, she had to stuff a marshmallow in her mouth (and NOT swallow!)  It was hilarious!  She got quite a bit wrong because I asked some pretty hard questions (i.e. Who was Nate's favorite mission companion?  and Who was Nate's mission president?  Ya.... Not surprised she didn't remember those answers.)  Anyway... She loved it and we all had a good laugh at her answers AND Nate's answers.  He's a pretty funny guy I must say.  Then we all gave her the lingerie we bought for her!  I figured she'd get plenty of kitchen and bathroom paraphernalia so I made it a lingerie party!  She loved it and I just loved seeing her soo happy!

We then had a blast watching The Bachelorette!  That show is just so ridiculous that it's entertaining.  We had multiple discussions about who is the cutest guy and why in the heck they are still not married...???  Oh and why in heaven's name would ANYONE voluntarily go on that show?!  Yes... It was great.  But Sarah - WE MISSED YOU!!  I know you would've picked out some sexy lingerie *wink*

Also, funny story.  While Biddy and I were decorating, I got out some plastic utensils to use for the cake later.  I put out more than we needed but I figured some extra couldn't hurt... Syd proceeded to tell me that we wouldn't need extra forks... Lo and behold, Syd was the first one to break her fork on the ice cream cake.  Followed by a long hard laugh from Syd and me, an explanation of what we were laughing about, and Chan, Ainge, and Kasandra all breaking their forks too.  It was great.  Oh the small things in life :)

It was one crazy day and I am glad it's over but it was a blast!  Congratulations Angel!! LOVE YOU!

*I shall try to post pictures later when I get them on the computer.*
